Well obviously we have a mix of Black and Exploitation film but that doesn't really cover the full territory.

The real genre of blaxploitation really existed from around 1970 to 1980 and while never conforming to one genre or another they were mainly a cultural collision on celluloid.

During that period of '70 to '80 over 200 hundred films were made by both major studios and lesser known fly by night operations. Though the film may have been a western an urban tale, horror or just a flat out comedy the main underlying theme was a major black character who had had enough of 'The Man'.

During the 80's as major black stars began to crossover and it seemed as if the blaxploitation flick may fizzle out, but in so many ways they exist stronger today than they ever have. The influences are felt throughout, just take a look at the recent (and popular) directors like John Singleton (Shaft - 2000), Quentin Tarantino (Jackie Brown), and even The Wayan Bros. have even taken their shots by making a parody of the form with I'm Gonna Git You Sucka'!
