John Cusack: Click Here For John Cusack's Filmography

High Fidleity Born June 28, 1966 in Evanston Illinois John Cusack is the son of an Irish Catholic family. The fourth sibling in a never-ending lineage of talent.

But let's start at the beginning shall we? His father, Richard is a documentary filmmaker and his mother Nancy is a teacher. His three sisters, Joan, Susan and Anne are all actors and his brother Bill also followed suit.

It was around the time he was eight years old that he joined the Piven Theatre Workshop. If the name Piven sounds familiar to any Cusack fans it is probably because he co-starred with Jeremy Piven in Gross Pointe Blank. Jermey's parents in turn, run The Piven Theatre Workshop. See how this all ties in?

By the time John was twelve he had already appeared in several commercials, radio spots and industry films. At 17 he made his first real break, in the big screen comedy of 1983, Class.

Then the rest of the Eighties came on like gangbusters. It is always astounding to hear some people not realize who Cusack is, until they realize they grew up watching his movies. Sixteen Candles, Better Off Dead, One Crazy Summer, and of course, Cameron Crowe's Say Anything.

After Say Anything was a surprise hit, Cusack was offered more adult roles. He appeared in Scorsese's The Grifters, a gritty little movie that is infinitely re-watchable and a little known but interesting flick called True Colours co-starring James Spader.

As he came into the 90's his talents seemed to grow, as did his fame. In 1994, Cusack starred in Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway, a witty farcical period piece about an aspiring writer who unwittingly gets tied up with the mob. An ensemble film where everyone is at his or her best. In 1996 he held his own against Al Pacino in City Hall and then came Gross Pointe Blank. Along with starring in this dark, sly little movie he also helmed it through the writing process and co-produced it.

Gross Pointe Blank brought a lot of attention to Cusack. No longer was he the guy who just seems normal enough to frame a romance around him. All of a sudden he was being taken much more seriously, as a more thought provoking actor. Apparently they had ignored some of his earlier works like the aforementioned Grifters or Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil.

Since Gross Pointe Blank his production company, New Crime Productions (partnered along with which he founded with two of his high school buddies Steve Pink & D.V. DeVincentis), has also produced Fear and Loathing in Vas Vegas, The Jack Bull and more recently, the highly acclaimed High Fidelity.

"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"

This October we can expect to see him opposite Kate Beckinsale (and Jeremy Piven again) in Serendipity. He also has a small role in Adaptation playing himself, a story about writing a screenplay while making Being John Malkovichůsounds like the ultimate insiders movie. And finally sometime in 2002, the intriguing sounding Hoffman about a Munich gallery owner who befriends a young Adolf Hitler just after World War I.
