L.A. Confidential Review

Directed By: Curtis Hanson.
Starring: Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito.

Synopsis: Three cops, a call girl, a mysterious millionaire, a tabloid journalist, and the Chief of Detectives fuel a labyrinthine plot rife with mystery, ambition, romance, and humor.
With waves of intrigue running through it like China Town this is one of the true pot-boilers that recalls the genre of film noir without being laughable.
James Ellroy recalls the styles of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and Jim Thompson. L.A. Confidential follows the lives of three tortured souls in the 1950s L.A.P.D.: Ed Exley, the clean-cut cop who lives shivering in the shadow of his dad, a legendary cop in the same department; Jack Vincennes, a cop who advises a Police Squad- like TV show and busts movie stars for payoffs from sleazy Hush-Hush magazine; and Bud White, a detective haunted by the sight of his dad murdering his mom.
