Power Puff Girls Review

Directed By: Craig McCracken.

Starring: (the voices of) Cathy Cavadini (Blossom), Tara Charendoff (Bubbles) and E.G. Daily (Buttercup)

Synopsis: The movie shows the origin of the Powerpuff Girls before the cartoon series. It explains why they were born and why they dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil. A huge hit with not only kids but the college set as well.

I think I'm too old to be reviewing this film, but as I don't know any 6 years olds foolish enough to write a review for me for free, here goes!

What the?

What the?

What the?

Some of this film is funny, some of it seems oddly frightening for children, and other moments, with all of its flashing and faltering images seemed designed for the ecstasy crowd more than the child audience.

I have seen my fair share of Powerpuff Girls on DVD, my friend Melanie swears by them and I have since watched many of the above collections from the TV show. Some of them I really enjoyed and others, not so much. So really that opinion just seems to be a magnified one when I watched it on the big screen. Some funny gags like one character quoting only Van Halen lines, another with all the 'bad primates' led by Mo-Jo-Jo-Jo telling of all their super powers.

But despite the almost manic pacing of this film, there seems to be little reason for this film. Most of the storyline, while never really animated before, was hinted at and shown in the opening credits of the T.V. show.

So, I would have a hard time saying this is a kid's flick (at least for anyone under 6) and the one's I do recommend this film probably don't read this site...but the fact is, this film would be a wild ride for all the chuckle-heads who do 'E' and think it's a fun way to spend a weekend.

You want a score out of 5? I would have to say a 2, mainly for the soundtrack which was blaring but had some cool tunes assaulting the senses.
