Saturday Night Live: A Brief History
Saturday Night Live - 25 Years of Laughs: The 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition, featuring behind the scenes footage not shown on the televised special! Before a celebrity audience, many of the former cast members and guest hosts return to look back at some of the best comedy skits and musical numbers of the past two and a half decades.
The Best-of Series and Compilations:
SNL - On The Big Screen
There have been many chances taken on the big screen and it has come to pass that very rarely do the SNL characters translate well onto the big screen. Some noteable exceptions are the Blues Brothers and Wayne's World bot others would make cases for Superstar or Coneheads...so look below and make up your own mind I guess!
Blue Brothers: After the release of Jake Blues from prison, he and brother Elwood go to visit the orphanage where they were raised by nuns. They learn that the church stopped its support and will sell the place unless the tax on the property is paid within 11 days. The brothers decide to raise the money by putting their blues band back together and staging a big gig. They may be on a "mission from God" but they're making enemies everywhere they go. The DVD includes a Making Of Featurette, Production Photos, Production Notes and footage not seen since the original Picwood preview in 1980.
Blue Brothers 2000: They're bad. They're bold. And they're back! Eighteen years after the Blues Brothers' original "mission from God," Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd) is out of prison and on a whole new mission--to reassemble the band, restore family ties and set a wayward orphan on the path to redemption. Aykroyd is joined by John Goodman and together they create lots of madness and musical mayhem in this action-packed comedy with lots of Rhythm & Blues. Featuring appearances by Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, James Brown, Erykah Badu, Eric Clapton, Blues Traveler, Travis Tritt and more!
The DVD also includes: A Making of Featurette and Deleted Scenes.
Wayne's World: In the tradition of The Ten Commandments, Lawrence Of Arabia and Gandhi comes a sweeping screen epic bursting with spectacle and drama...NOT! It's Wayne's World, the hilarious, party-down movie of the year, featuring rockin' tunes, radical babes, and your most excellent hosts, Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey). When a sleazy TV exec (Rob Lowe) offers Wayne and Garth a fat contract to tape their late-night cable-access show at his network, the two can't believe their good fortune. But they soon discover the road from basement to big time is a gnarly one, fraught with danger, temptation, and ragin' party opportunities.
The Wayne's World - Complete Epic Pack includes:
Commentary by Director Penelope Spheeris
Extreme Close-Up - New, Exclusive Cast and Crew Interviews with Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Rob Lowe, Tia Carrere, Director Penelope Spheeris and Producer Lorne Michaels
Wayne's World 2:
Commentary by Director Stephen Surjik
Extreme Close-Up - New, Exclusive Cast and Crew Interviews with Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Tia Carrere, Director Stephen Surjik and Producer Lorne Michaels
Wayne's World 2: It's 2 excellent to be true! Wayne and Garth are back (and front) in the most awaited video since Wayne's World - Wayne's World 2! Having achieved godlike status as a late-night TV personality, Wayne (Mike Myers) now confronts the question that has plagued man for centuries: Is there life after cable? Wayne gets his answer in a dream, wherein a very famous (and very dead) rock star says, "Put on a rock concert, and they will come." So Wayne and Garth (Dana Carvey) present 'Waynestock.' But first, Wayne must save his girlfriend, Cassandra, (Tia Carrere) from a sinister record producer (Christopher Walken), as Garth grapples with the advance of mega-babe Honey Hornee (Kim Basinger).
It's Pat... The Movie:
What's that movie that made less than ten thousand dollars at the box office? "It's Pat - The Movie." Based on the neutered character Julia Sweeney introduced on Saturday Night Live, this bloated, low-concept film purportedly was script-doctored by Sweeney pal Quentin Tarantino. Surprisingly, it does have a few funny moments.
Lampooning our Bluntheaded civilization as only Coneheads can, Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin star as mega-domed Beldar and Prymaat. Newcomer Michelle Burke plays the teen daughter at odds with her parental units. Michael McKean (as an INS agent who-mebs!-wants to deport illegal alien Beldar) and many more comedy favorites add to the fun of this all-out laugh attack-from Remulak!
Night At The Roxbury:
With their iridescent suits, gold chains and sideburns, the Butabi Brothers are confident they're cool enough to go wherever the night takes them. But the doormen at L.A.'s hottest clubs think not, and keep them out on the street--until a fortunate accident ushers them into the ultra-hip Roxbury Club and into a life they once only dreamed about.
All schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher (Shannon) wants in life is a kiss. Not just any kiss, mind you - a big-time, hold-your-breath-'till-you-think-you’re-gonna-faint, Hollywood-style kiss. But no matter how hard she tries, no one will kiss her. Mary Katherine decides that the only way she's ever going to get what she wants is to become just like the other people she sees getting those kisses in the movies. And when Catholic Teen Magazine sponsors a talent contest at her school, Mary Katherine just might make her dreams come true…and become a Superstar!
Stuart Saves His Family:
Veteran 12-stepper Stuart Smalley faces the unfortunate facts of his dismal life when his cable-access show is canceled. It takes a lot of work before he can chant his mantra, 'I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggone it, people like me.'
The Ladies Man:
When Leon and his lovely producer (Karyn Parsons) lose their radio show because of Leon's X-rated on-air comments, he figures things can't get worse. So when Leon gets a letter from a former flame promising him a lifetime of wealth and happiness, things start looking up and he figures the "love machine" is back in action. Now all Leon has to do is figure out which one of his "Sweet Things" wrote the letter! Of course, if there's one subject Leon knows, it's women. Or does he?
The DVD includes Cast and Crew Interviews.
