Matthew Perry: Click Here For Matthew's Filmography

Born Matthew Langford Perry August 19, 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts though raised in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada, for those not in the know). While growing up he attended Ashbury College, a private school in Ottawa. His parents had separated and he was living with his mother, Suzanne Morrison, who was a press agent for Pierre Trudeau, (again, for those not in the know...the Prime Minister of Canada, during the seventies and eighties). During his time spent in Ottawa he became a top-ranked tennis junior tennis player in Canada - ranked 17th nationally in singles and third in the doubles.

However, he left Canada to live with his father (actor John Bennett Perry) in L.A. at the age of 15. During high school he became involved in several high school productions while keeping up the tennis side but soon dropped it as he felt he wasn't "good enough" to compete in the States.

After graduating high school he had planned on attending the University of Southern California but ran the other way when he was offered a leading role on the television series Second Chance. This was not his first time on a set as he had appeared in such shows as Silver Spoons, Highway to Heaven and Charles in Charge in the early 80's, but this was his first lead and his own chance to shine.

Despite the failure of the show, more work came his way, a slew of Teen movies that were being made at the time gave him some opportunities to shine. There was Dance 'Til Dawn with Alyssa Milano and Christina Applegate, She's Out of Control and A Night In The Life of Jimmy Reardon with River Phoenix.

While none of these made major headway in his career, they did build his resume. Besides, we all know what made Matthew Perry's career what it is today...the 1994 movie Getting In with Kristy Swanson and Andrew McCarthy. Oh, and that little known flop of a TV show called Friends...I suppose that helped as well.

Since the debut of Friends Matthew Perry has gone on to bigger and, despite some early critical notices, better things. Films like Almost Heroes and Fools Rush In may not have built a solid movie career but 2000's The Whole Nine Yards drove the point home that Perry can be funny without playing Chandler Bing. So much so that a sequel is in the works for 2003.
