Amanda Peet: Click Here For Amanda's Filmography

Aside from a box-office hit, there is only one thing that will push you up the ladder just as fast and that is a box-office dud. Amanda Peet has dealt with both sides of the coin and often turned up the better for it.

While stuck playing secondary roles since She's The One Amanda has seen her career grow and grow and after The Whole Nine Yards she soon found herself fielding more leading roles. Although few registered very highly (remember Whipped?) she kept persevering and has landed roles in some high profile films like High Crimes with Ashley Judd and Changing Lanes with Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck.

Born January 11, 1972 Amanda always seemed to have her sights set on an acting career. At the age of three she made an unconventional stage debut when she jumped onto the stage during a play. She grew up in New York with her older sister and her parents. Her father Charles is a lawyer, and her mother Penny is a social worker.

Growing up acting was a fascination but kept to a minimum, more a hobby than a serious pursuit. It wasn't until she was studying history at Columbia University when a drama professor convinced her to audition for acting teacher Uta Hagen. The audition was a success and she began to study acting seriously; during which time, she participated in an off-Broadway revival of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing. She soon began turning up for television and movie auditions, supporting herself with a hostess job at a restaurant and residuals she received from a small role in a Skittles ad.

In 1996 she landed her first feature film role in She's The One and immediately followed up this auspicious big screen debut with a small role in the George Clooney, Michelle Pfeiffer love story One Fine Day. Some of the television shows she landed during this time were Central Park West, Seinfeld, The Single Guy and Spin City.

The late 90's consisted mostly of smaller, supporting roles in films like Simply Irresistible and Playing By Heart before she landed the lead in a sitcom called Jack and Jill (1999). Though the series was short-lived it gave her wider exposure and a fan base began to grow. In 2000 she took a gutsy leap and joined the cast of The Whole Nine Yards though her role required some nudity. At least in this case a weak argument could be made that Amanda's nudity was integral to the plot...if not integral, at least it was funny.

Not surprisingly this also garnered Amanda more attention from the casting set and she followed this success with the aforementioned Whipped and Saving Silverman. Neither of which were huge hits but each did enough business to at least break even.

Amanda has some big films on the horizon like Igby Goes Down in which she will appear with Susan Sarandon and Jeff Goldblum, and Rain Falls with Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette. She has also been busy re-visiting her break out film The Whole Nine Yards with its sequel, The Whole Ten Yards
