It's kind of funny then to trace back through Josh's career and see the roles that he wasn't picked for. One oft-cited example was the fact that he auditioned for Dawson's Creek, made the call-back sheet four more times and still failed to make the cut for the hit teen show. Another great mis-step was the failing to cast him in Jerry Bruckheimer's Remember The Titans. However, the side story to missing out on the big Bruckheimer hit has turned out to be Hartnett's jumping stone to success.
He followed missing out on Remember The Titans to co-star in Pearl Harbor (another Bruckeheimer film and another war film, the critically loved Black Hawk Down, with, you guessed it, Bruckheimer as producer. Now with several films on the go and Hartnett starring as the lead in all of them it is doubtful that there will be any more of the audition process left to haunt Hartnett at all.
Josh Hartnett was Born July 21, 1978 in San Francisco, California though raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. His early teenage years he spent playing football for Richfield High School and working part time as a videostore clerk. During one game he tore a ligament in his knee, effectively ending any dreams he had to play in the Pro's. Surprisingly, advice came from his Aunt who urged him to transfer schools, where he took his first steps in an acting career. He performed in a few small plays and soon found himself before the cameras doing commercial work.
With this small yet successful resume Hartnett took an even bigger chance and headed out to L.A. Within a short three months he landed the part on the short-lived TV series, Cracker (The American version). Feature films came next and he landed two big name horror flicks. The first, the resurrection of the Halloween series Halloween: H20 which he followed with The Faculty (co-starring Jordana Brewster). Other teen films like Here on Earth (with Leelee Sobieski) and The Virgin Suicides have built a devoted teen fan base that never fail to support him in even his weakest of work.
Josh's name has gone from one amongst the many in the credit crawl to the top of the hit list with success stories like Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, O and 40 Days and 40 Nights.
