Born October 29, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska, Gabrielle can honestly say she was not pursuing an acting career when it came her way. |
When was eight years old her family left Nebraska for Pleasanton, California, and they stayed there as she grew up and began attending high school. Apparently quite the athelete in her teens she was an all-star point guard and a year round athlete participating in soccer, basketball, and track. Sports were just extra-currcicular activities though as she maintained her grades and returned to Nebraska to go to university. She would later transfer to Cuesta College before ending up at UCLA. Her academic pursuits all focussed on the goal of law school.
Law School costs money though and Gabrielle began working side jobs to pay for her goal. One such job was a college internship at a L.A. modeling agency, what was supposed to be a breeze in terms of extra credits turned into her becoming a client with the agency. She began modeling as a way to pay the bills but when her agent discovered she could act as well, things changed dramatically.
She landed an audition, and in turn, a job without so much as a headshot on the teen-com Saved By The Bell.
In 1993, at the age of 20, that was just the beginning. She would spend six years building a television resume with such shows as 7th Heaven, Deep Space Nine, City of Angels and Moesha. By 1999 she made her feature film debut in She's All That. Within a mere four years she has established herself firmly as an actress with a flair for comedy and drama.
As her success in film grew she also managed to find time in 2001 to marry Chris Howard, a NFL player for the Jacksonville, Jaguars. Chris Howard.
She had already nailed roles in 10 Things I Hate About You, Two Can Play That Game and Bring It On, all of which began to lead into more dramatic territory like the horror film Abandon and the dark comedy Welcome to Collinwood. According to the available stats, her box-office average (up to the release of The Brothers) is an astounding $44.9 million.
Expect that average to jump a little higher after 2003 as Gabrielle has several films slated for release. First there is the action flick Cradle 2 The Grave, followed by a comedy flick called Deliver us From Eva where she plays the title character. But most of all is the big-budget sequel to Bad Boys with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith.
