Ice Cube: Click Here For Ice's Biography

Ice Cube: Click Here For Ice's Filmography

Ice Cube, or O'Shea Jackson as his birth certificate reads, was born June 15, 1969 in L.A., California. Now, I may not agree with the politics and tactics that has taken this man as far as he has in the last few years (and I'm sure he could give a rat's ass what I think) but I am impressed with the clout he now has and his management of his industry.

It was his efforts as a singer/songwriter that first got the man who calls himself Ice Cube known. He was (for those of you who don't know) in the controversial and cutting edge band N.W.A. Their first LP "Straight Outta Compton" in 1989 included the title track and other tunes with names like "Fuck Tha Police" and "Gangsta Gangsta".

Ice Cube quit the band over some business differences and became an even bigger draw with his solo outings "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" in 1990 and "Death Certificate" (Priority, 1991), a concept album about the fall and rise of the Black man…a concept album that went on to sell 2 million copies. That was in 1991, and since then he has put out six albums to date and sold over ten million copies.

The same year Death Certificate came out Ice Cube fans were in for a bigger surprise. Ice Cube branched out into acting.

In 2002 Samuel L. Jackson spoke out about the trend of hiring rappers as actors in the movies. He made one exception. Will Smith. A very good call on his part, but I would also add Ice Cube to the fray, if only for his performance in his debut film Boyz In The Hood directed by John Singleton. Despite the glut of imitators it spawned, this was a well made, interesting and sadly realistic look at life in the streets of L.A.

Since then Ice Cube has kept his recording career alive as well as having now appeared in over 15 movies including such great little flicks as Three Kings with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg, the ever loved Friday series, and All About The Benjamins which I have to say, he gave proof he has the chops for the action flicks as well.

So, acting and singing/songwriting...makes the good bucks and still he expands into new territories. He also began performing on the other side of the camera, directing videos for himself as well as Prince and Color Me Badd. Then there is the script writing side...he helped pen Friday, The Players Club, Next Friday, All About The Benjamins and the upcoming Friday After Next

Not bad...but still, not content...and what will make him content I assume is just the desire to keep working...he began producing his own films with All About the Benjamins (although he had served as executive producer on his films Next Friday, The Players Club, Dangerous Ground and Friday.

Ice Cube, basically, is a one man industry.

#4 on our Top Ten Rap Artists Turned Actors Page. Ice Cube: Ice Cube may always be known as one of the members of N.W.A. with the extremely influential album "Straight Outta Compton" but is acting chops came to light in a little movie known as Boyz N The Hood. A few films later and he took a turn at producing and the result was the sleeper hit Friday. Ice Cube has managed to remain fresh for both film and music, recording tunes for his own productions like Barbershop and All About The Benjamins. On a more recent note he will be returning with Barbershop 2, co-starring #3 (Queen Latifah) and #8 (Eve) from this list.
