Monica 'Monique' Bellucci was born September 30, 1968 in Citta di Castello, Perugia, Italy. Originally this 5' 10" beauty was pursuing a career in the legal profession. It was during her time at the University of Perugia that she began putting her height and looks to use. It was intended as a way to earn money while attending classes but these things have a way of expanding quickly and soon Bellucci was looking at modeling as a career move.

By 1988 she had joined the Elite Model Management and was living in Milan, one of Europe's true fashion hubs of the world. Two years later she made her TV debut and byt he time she became involved with Francis Ford Coppola's production of Bram Stoker's Dracula she had another two film credits to her name.

Despite the role in this american film, Monica has spent a lot of time working mainly in European films. Her resume which includes well over 30 films features only a few American flicks and her European films are not as easy to locate on DVD in North America as one might assume. Films like L'Appartement which landed her a Cesar nomination for the Most Promising Actress in 1997. The Cesar is akin to a French version of the Oscar.

Slowly though she began to break through with slick looking flicks like Fish Out of Water, the romantic Malena, the insanely over-the-top martial arts/French film Brotherhood of the Wolf and the big budget Bruce Willis/war film Tears of the Sun.

These are all good sized stepping stones but they will be nothing in comparison to the media circus she will likely face as she emerges in the two Matrix films, Reloaded and Revolutions playing a character called Persephone.
