Born Natasha Taylor on March 23, 1971, in Hampstead, London, England. However, she spent most of her formative years in Brighton, England being raised by her parents, both of whom are journalists. At the age of six she began taking dancing lessons, Irish dancing mainly, lessons she would take until she was twelve.
After high school she studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art for three years before graduating in 1993. She then began hitting the auditions and was soon appearing in front of the footlights in such productions as Richard III, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Cherry Orchard and Midsummer Night's Dream.
Although she had appeared on the BBC series Bergerac in 1991 and Absolutely Fabulous (Episode- Death) it wasnít until 1994 she landed a role of any substance in the BBC Drama A Breed of Heroes.
In 1996 she made her feature film debut opposite Anthony Hopkins in Surviving Picasso. Since then the work has been big and steady. She was in the acclaimed Dennis Potter mini-series Karaoke and appeared with Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford in The Devilís Own.
Since then it has been steady work for McElhone, though not every film had the exposure of The Truman Show (1998), though with her work in five films in 2002 one can expect to see her a bit more in the future. She has the Steven Soderbergh sci-fi flick Solaris, the horror film Fear.Com with Stephen Dorff and City of Ghosts which marks Matt Dillonís feature film directorial debut.
Despite all the big budget films, she still lives in London with her husband, Dr. Martin Hirigoyen, a plastic surgeon which they share with a cat named (and you have to love this for a name) Soup.
