Believe it or not, Dagmara had already researched her role in The Count of Monte Cristo when she was growing up. Well, perhaps that's stretching it a bit but you'll get the idea as you read on.

During the late 1970's, her father was a leader of the Solidarity movement in Poland. When the Soviet Union came in and decided that the movement was essentially promoting such atrocities as social and political freedom...her father was jailed for 13 months. Dagmara's father spent his life fighting freedom in Poland as a way of extracting revenge against the Communists for the death of his own father so many years before. (see that whole tie in to The Count of Monte Cristo?)

Upon his release the family left Poland behind and at the age of 7, Dagmara was (along with her father) an exile living in New York. She attended the High School of Performing Arts and won the prestigious La Guardia Alumni Award for Best Actor. With the award in hand she then snagged a full scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University where she graduated in 1998 with a BFA in acting (and top honors including the John Arthur Kennedy Award for Acting.) While at CMU she played leading lady in such plays as The Philadelphia Story, Twelfth Night, Look Back In Anger and The Heidi Chronicles.

Dagmara Dominczyk In 1999, a mere year after graduation she was on set with Ed Norton and Ben Stiller in Norton's directorial debut Keeping The Faith. It was released in 2000 and by that time she had another larger role in Rock Star (you may remember her in the 'morning after' seen with Mark Wahlberg as the publicist who tried to seduce Jennifer Aniston). The roles have grown and more recently she appeared in the big screen adaptation of the classic The Count of Monte Cristo and They. Dagmara, at only 25 is quickly on her way to becoming more than just one of those 'faces' in the film but a full-fledged lead lady of the silver screen.
