Scarlett Johansson: Click Here For Scarlett's Filmography

Unlike most of her ilk, Scarlett Johansson has yet to do a mindless teen comedy romp flick like Not Another Teen Movie or Scary Movie...but give her time...after all she's only 18 and hell, Matthew Broderick was was 24 when he played Ferris Bueller.

Born November 22, 1984, in New York Scarlett has always had her eye on the acting world...she began taking classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute for Young People. By the age of eight she was making her stage debut in the off-Broadway production of 'Sophistry' at New York's Playwright Horizons opposite Ethan Hawke. Two years later she graced the silver screen for the first time in the critically maligned but cute little flick called North. Sadly, the film didn't perform at the box-office and her next two outings (Just Cause, If Lucy Fell) followed suit.

In 1996 she had critics sit up and take notice with her performance as Manny in the Indie film Manny and Lo, a performance that would earn her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.

This lead her directly to being cast in Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer which met with mixed audience response landed her more critical praise and, of course, more work.

In 2001 she had two films hitting the big screen, American Rhapsody, a slightly meandering albeit true tale of a young girl who escapes communist Hungary in the 50's and arrives to live with her parents after being separated since birth essentially. Johansson was the main stand out of the film. The same could almost...almost be said of Ghost World. An adaptation of Daniel Clowes' comic features several great performances but of all the characters only Johansson's truly grows and sadly, for the last third of the film, is shuffled off because of this character growth it seems.

Her next film is the much more commercial, over-the-top Killer Spider flick called Eight Legged Freaks. Intentionally both a parody and homage to the killer mutant creature B-Flicks of long ago this should lead to a wider audience seeing Scarlett's work (possibly for the first time) before she begins to take on those coveted but lucrative brainless teen roles.
