She may be a teen sensation, she may be compared to the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera but she's already taken her career a step further than these two in one way. She brought the movie, A Walk To Remember from a budget of $11 million to a box-office hit at $41 in the U.S. alone. All of a sudden, she has a new movie coming out (How to Deal as of this writing) and five more in various stages of production including the new horror teen flick Cursed by Wes Craven.
Born Amanda Leigh Moore in Nashua, New Hampshire back on April 10, 1984. Her mother Stacy is a former newspaper reporter and her father Don is a pilot. Originally Mandy began her singing career as an audience member, watching and listening. According to her it was a stage performance of Oklahoma! that gave her the inclination to begin performing. She began attending musical theatre and was even singing the national anthem at her local sporting events. As always, in the least likely of spots lurks a producer and from one of these sporting events came the offer to record an album. Mandy Moore was 14 at the time. By the time she was 15 her first record "So Real" was released and she began her first major tour appearing on the bill with the Backstreet Boys.
But what really made critics sit up and take notice was her switching of gear for A Walk To Remember (based on Nicholas Sparks' best-seller). She cut her hair and went from blonde to brunette and was lauded for her performance. The result is five feature films and a MTV Movie award for breakthrough female performance.

One need only take a look at her upcoming films to realize they will not be as innocent or naive as her breakout film A Walk To Remember. With Saved, a dark comedy featuring Jena Malone, covering teen pregnancy, the aforementioned Cursed and the film Havoc about a couple of teens in L.A. who find themselves involved with a latino gang after playing gangsta's themselves. Mandy Moore, like MTV predicted, hasn't just broken through, she's about to be plastered within your subconcious for some time now. |
