Born Peta Gia Wilson on November 18, 1970, Peta would not have what you would call a 'normal' childhood. Although she was born in Sydney, Australia she spent her earlier years as an army brat all over the pacific rim, spending a large portion of her time in Papua, New Guinea where her Australian father was stationed.
The fact that she grew up in a home without a radio or tv might seem odd considering her chosen profession but when forced to come up with your own fun odd choices are sometimes made. Peta's choice was to perform for her parents by lip-synching to albums by Neil Diamond. Therein lie the beginnings of a star.
| Before hitting the auditions for film and television Peta was studying at an all girl school in Brisbane, Australia where she revelled in the sports that the school offered. In order to counter-balance this tom-boyish trait her mother soon had Peta enrolled in deportment classes. Once there you could say she was discovered as a modeling agent encouraged her to hit the catwalk. |

Wisely using the catwalk as a spring board she headed off to Los Angeles and began to study acting with Arthur Mendoza, a protege of Stella Adler. As she studied she was also landing a few small roles along the way but nothing that could keep her from really learning her craft. She had plans to head off to New York to focus full time on acting when (again) at the encouragement of another (this time her agent) she auditioned and landed the lead role in the T.V. Series Nikita which would prove to be her breakthrough.
