Born in Humble, Texas back on Christmas Eve in 1905 and perhaps humble is what helped build his legend. By the time he died (April 5, 1976) he was known for many things...wealth...that's a big one. His carefree manner, the aviator who built The Spruce Goose...that would only fly once and then only the distance of a mile. And with some Hollywood credentials, his legend would only grow so it is no shock that he would spark not just one movie but has continually inspired filmmakers.
The wealth? Well a good portion of it came from inheritance. His father created the 'Hughes Rock Eater' a self-sharpening drill bit made for digging oil wells that is still used today.
