The Mask was Cameron Diaz's feature film debut.

Director Chuck Russell has said that The Mask started off as a very dark horror film based on the old comic books before being transformed as a vehicle for Jim Carrey's unique comedy.

Made for only $18 million (this was in the days before Carrey and Diaz's huge paydays) the film would go on to gross more than $60 in North America alone.
