Mystery Men Review

An offbeat little film that misses more than it hits. However, still worth the watch. The film is sharper than one might expect and you have to listen and watch pretty carefully for some pretty hidden film references including movies like Frankenstein, The Magnificent Seven, What's Up, Tiger Lily?, The Six Million Dollar Man, Blazing Saddles, Jaws, Saturday Night Fever, and The Warriors.

Certain sequences where the crew work as a team show what the movie could have been whereas it loses the focus here and there when it centers more on one character than another.

The cast is another matter. Great casting all the way around from Janeane Garofalo stealing every scene she is in as The Bowler to Tom Waits as a whacked out scientist.
