Synopsis: Based on Thomas Hardy's novel The Mayor of Casterbridge.
It's 1849, California during the gold rush. A young man (Peter Mullen) founds the gold mining town of Kingdom Come and prepares to be a great success. But he is blinded by the prospect of becoming a rich man, and so he exchanges his wife and daughter for a large sum of gold. After 20 years of separation, the two women come to find him, but with the economy shifting the reunited family finds nothing but more hard times.
